Cat Declawing Facts

Here are some facts relevant to Cats and declawing.

1/3rd of time awake a cat spends in it's life it grooms itself. Without claws it is really hard to do this (especially to keep fur clean). The cat also untangles hair as we do with it's claws, and removes away dead skin. If you have a dog you will see it doing usually the same thing but with it's teeth. But a cat's claws are also used to control body temperature, and overall health (while grooming).

A cat can still climb without it's claws, however it's regular activities are more restricted and limited. If your cat is usually outside consider keeping it inside after a declaw procedure.

In rare cases cats will change their personality after a declaw.

A cat's primary defense is it's claws, there have been reports of adventurous declawed cats that cannot protect themselves outside injured. Also in rare cases cats turn to their secondary defense (biting).

Declawed cats are less likely to be adopted if left. You would think the opposite however many people looking for cats are not looking for declawed ones (proven).

The best age to declaw a kitten is between 3-5 months old.

Declawing is illegal in many countries around the world.
